All the King's Men



SPECIAL BRANCH SEASON 3 (INSTANT VIDEO) - A VERY ENJOYABLE SERIES
SPECIAL BRANCH is an enjoyable, low key (by today's standards) British police drama that aired from '69-'74. George Sewell stars as "Det. Chief Inspector Alan Craven" who is member of the anti-terrorism/espionage department of the London Metropolitan Police with it's key emphasis on National Security. There's more psychological intrique to the series than emphasis on graphic violence and as a result, the scripting plays itself out at a nice measured pace.

The episode "YOU WON'T REMEMBER ME" opens with a couple at an (undisclosed) upscale jewelry store purchasing an engagement ring - unaware that the Special Branch has them under heavy 24 surveillance. The woman becomes increasingly suspicious when she sees Craven observing her outside a laundromat and remembers seeing him at the jewelry store, and hurries away to a phone booth where Craven is waiting to pick her up for questioning.
