Episode 24 - Why Mosquito Buzzes

Wonderful series!
My grandson absolutely loves the Tinga Tinga collection. "Why Elephant Has a Trunk" is one of his favorites. He has watched it so many times he says the words WITH the characters and he's only two! Beautiful illustrations... so colorful and the stories are wonderful. Just the right combination to keep a child interested. Well done... looking forward to buying more... although it was difficult finding a venue to purchase in the United States. Thank you Amazon for carrying it!

Love it
My kids love this show, short enough to fill spaces when I need to get stuff done but long enough to entertain them. We love the show

Tinga Tinga Tales
Great show! My children love it and I love the lessons that are learned. The singing is wonderful and the colors are so vibrant.

Heceta Head Lighthouse

Great Bit of Oregon History
This video begins with a detailed description of the actual light and it's mechanics then expands from there. I will never take the old light house lights for granted again. There are lots of interesting old pictures both inside and out of the light house and the light house keepers house. Pictures and names of many of the residents and locals and info on some of their noteworthy accomplishments. Little known facts and photos detailing some of the aspects of their lives in the early 1900's. There is also discussion and more old photos depicting several other areas of life back in the day. Besides the horse and buggy pictures, I enjoyed seeing photos of early construction equipment and the discussion of the trials and tribulations of travel in the area one hundred years ago. Having previously lived in Oregon I also really enjoyed seeing the places I used to know. The tunnel construction pictures brought back memories of how years later people used to honk their car horns while they...

Pat Cooper Live - You're Always Yelling

Seen him live so many times- nothing new here.
Love Pat Cooper and have loved him since I was a little girl and my relatives played his comedy albums on their stereos!

Now flash forward to adulthood and yes, I still love Pat Cooper. He is a mix of laughter, nostalgia and my own family memories.

But gauging the age of this video, versus the last few times I saw him live?

I can see he is recycling his material big time. It shows in this video and it shows in his live performances.

This man appeals to Italians/Sicilians for the most part.

If you are not Italian/Sicilian but married into a family of such, you will get the humor, too.

However, if you have seen him live in the last 5 yrs- skip this- unless you never get tired of hearing his repertoire of jokes.

Again- loveable guy- and a very talented comedian even if his main genre is Italian humor.

But if he produces another video of his stand up act, it really needs new material...

All the King's Men

SPECIAL BRANCH SEASON 3 (INSTANT VIDEO) - A VERY ENJOYABLE SERIES
SPECIAL BRANCH is an enjoyable, low key (by today's standards) British police drama that aired from '69-'74. George Sewell stars as "Det. Chief Inspector Alan Craven" who is member of the anti-terrorism/espionage department of the London Metropolitan Police with it's key emphasis on National Security. There's more psychological intrique to the series than emphasis on graphic violence and as a result, the scripting plays itself out at a nice measured pace.

The episode "YOU WON'T REMEMBER ME" opens with a couple at an (undisclosed) upscale jewelry store purchasing an engagement ring - unaware that the Special Branch has them under heavy 24 surveillance. The woman becomes increasingly suspicious when she sees Craven observing her outside a laundromat and remembers seeing him at the jewelry store, and hurries away to a phone booth where Craven is waiting to pick her up for questioning. When asked about her fiance's occupation - and she cannot answer (because she does not...

Vampire Dog

Family Friendly Fare That Lacks Much Bite: A Cute Premise That's Never Fully Explored
I guess I need to be wary of movies that use the word "dog" in their titles, it just might represent truth in advertising! What do you think about when you hear "Vampire Dog?" Right away, I conjured dozens of wacky sight gags, silly puns, and ridiculous spoofs. Just the notion of this dog having vampiric tendencies (even comical ones) opens up a myriad of mental images and potentially humorous situations. The problem with "Vampire Dog" is that its screenplay is so lazy, it never makes a convincing argument that Fang (the doggie in question, voiced by Norm MacDonald) is supernatural or even special. It cracks wise, to be sure, but is never particularly funny. What makes it a vampire exactly? Apparently it's very old, comes from Transylvania, moves like lightning, and consumes red jelly (this is actually Jello, but I guess they couldn't afford brand royalties). That's the back story of Fang in a nutshell.

Fang is taken in by an awkward youth (Collin MacKechnie). The primary...

Fun movie!
I have an 8-year-old who just loves this movie. It's entertaining and funny in an age-appropriate way. No blood or violence. The "vampire" dog needs cherry jelly to survive! Cute.

Nothing Original
The title was unique. I will give someone credit for that much. However once the movie starts its the same story we have all seen before, a by the number children's movie without an original bone in its body.

Cute movie
Since I love Golden Retrievers so much this is a feel good movie for sure. I will enjoy watching it often.

Gerhard Richter Painting

looking at the creative process, with limitations
Gerhard Richter Painting
this dvd is an attempt to explore the inner workings of the creative process of a great contemporary artist. what is highlighted in the inexpressible process of the artist's thinking and feeling as he works on his paintings until the "moment" of achievement is met. richter admits to not knowing from the get go what he is intending to achieve. his large size squeegees create transformations of the initial hand made painting, and the mechanical process offers him the opportunity for the painting to have a life of it's own. in watching this, the viewer is fascinated, puzzled, bored, and transfixed looking at an artist, but not quite seeing into his inner psyche. richter is often both self deprecating and humorous about the "unknowable" in mulling over the creative process. the film tends to be rather slow moving and at times lumbering, but it is none-the-less, a wonderful inside view of...

Moving Paint
An intimate visit with the artist in his studio. It was a joy to watch him engaged in his creative process, and to see his paintings unfold. He's very adept with both brush and squeegee. It was delicious to watch.

Well filmed and very inspiring
Just seeing how he manipulates his colors and respects the media makes me hungry to produce more work as an artist. Great production.

The Legend of God's Gun

The Legend of God's Gun
"Will someone with a gun shut this preacher up?" Viewers need saddle up for this wild, hallucinogenic gallop through Leoni's classics! In "The Legend of God's Gun," a lone preacher in the godless town of Playa Diablo seeks retribution for his lost love, murdered at the hands of venom-sucking bandito, El Sobero. In the process, the town of plagued villagers is purged of its demonic ills in this twisted rendition of good versus evil. Conceived by madman and composer Kirpatrick Thomas (the evil, El Sobero), the film is a visual and auditory tribute to the spaghetti western- exploded and deconstructed for your postmodern palette. Shot, edited, and directed by Mike Bruce (the less than honorable sheriff of Playa Diablo), "The Legend of God's Gun," is a visceral collage that is sure to become a cult phenomenon.

With a ridiculously low budget, a production team (including cast) of about 100, and over three years in the making, the film is a miraculous incarnation by all...

Defining a cult classic.
The Legend of Gods Gun. Some production notes:
1, Mike Bruce's first feature film. He went on to direct FIVE, count em' 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 of Noel Gallagher's (Yep, Oasis) High Flyin' Birds videos. Plus, has since released his next feature, Treasure of the Black Jaguar.
2. The music from this film has gone on to be used by Quentin Tarantino, East Bound & Down, Californication, and the films DUST UP(Amber Benson) and El Gringo(Christian Slater).
3.This film was the genesis of creating the Psychedelic Spaghetti Western movement in Joshua Tree, CA. Prompting the Clean Air Clear Stars Festival. The Soundtrack was released by TeePee Records.
4. It was literally premiered as a DRIVE-IN Grindhouse style movie in Joshua Tree, CA at Pioneertown. Popcorn and all in May 2008.
5. There were no actors involved in the making of this film. All were MUSICIANS. That includes Director, Editor, Gaffer, Location Scouts, and all other "Cast".
6. Yes, they were "busted" filming...

Psychadelic western at its best
Some parts with bad acting, but a rad overall movie with an awesome soundtrack. This movie is easy watch and stay awake to with constant wtf? or rofl moments

Iron Man

The 2-Disc Ultimate Edition Delivers!
The first disc features 11 deleted and extended scenes. There's more of the opening ambush with Tony Stark being more proactive. We also see more footage of Rhodes and it quickly becomes apparent that he was the character with the most scenes cut from the film. We also see Tony and Pepper Potts attend another party.

The second disc starts off with the impressive "I Am Iron Man," a 108 minute making of documentary that can be viewed in seven segments or altogether, taking us through various aspects of the production. For example, we are taken step-by-step through the construction of the Iron Man armor with Robert Downey Jr. cracking jokes while being fitted for it. It's amazing how much of the suit is practical and looks really good in person. This is due in large part to the genius of the late-great Stan Winston and his company. Also included is plenty of soundstage footage of scenes being filmed.

"The Invincible Iron Man" is a six-part documentary on the comic...

Iron man fires on all thrusters; and does NOT disappoint
There was a big question mark looming over the theatrical adaptation of Marvel's Iron Man property. It was in the guise of director Jon Favreau. Now, don't get me wrong, I love the Favs, but when I heard he was helming a big budget comic book flick...let's just say I was a little worried. Once his cast was set and the fanboys started humming across the internet I started to ease into the decision with high anticipation. Thankfully, after finally seeing the finished product, I was not disappointed in the least. With a great mix of the professionalism and stakes seen in both Spider-Man and X-Men and the comic wit and sheer fun of Fantastic Four, Iron Man shows how a comic can be brought to the screen successfully without all the added drama and weight. We finally have a film with the essence of what makes these picture books so popular, the action and mythology along with a sense of adventure and humor. Favreau never bogs us down with overwrought emotions nor speaks down to us with gags...

Sleepless Night

A Relentless French Thriller That Provides Clever Twists With Non-Stop Action Mayhem
The French thriller "Sleepless Night" is a movie that pulls no punches. It doesn't have lofty goals or meaningful subtext and that's perfectly all right. It aspires to entertain by being a mean and relentless excursion into action movie mayhem and it easily succeeds as one of the year's most exhilarating adventures. By serving up a high octane thrill ride, "Sleepless Night" becomes (for me) one of the year's biggest surprises. In case you can't tell, I really loved this down and dirty film! From a plotting standpoint, you've certainly seen it all before. There are good cops, bad cops, drug lords, and local gangsters all on the prowl for a cache of narcotics. What makes the movie so enjoyably twisted, however, is that most of the action takes place in an immense nightclub on the outskirts of Paris. The various parties collide or evade one another in congested parking lots, busy kitchens, labyrinthine back offices, rollicking dance floors, and bustling pool halls. This is one...

It's like a high tension wire.
This movie really moves! I caught it online because I missed it during the tribeca film festival, but I'm glad I saw it. It's a thriller where a dirty cop's son is kidnapped, and in his pursuit to return to the life he had, he takes paths in which there is no going back. What is refreshing is that this movie "goes there" in that it not so much breaks cliches as ignores them, and as this thriller veers aways from the familiar formula of thrillers, you start to realize that you have absolutely no idea what is going to happen next.

"BRILLIANT, SUSPENSEFUL, THRILLING!"
Vincent is a police officer, but is also involved with drug deals and the mob. His involvement with the mob gets more-and-more dangerous as he makes deliveries, pick-ups, and promises. After he gets into deep trouble from problems with the mob, his son is kidnapped. The clock ticks fast as time is not on his side, and his situation could be tragedy for him and his son. Action-Packed, edge-of-your-seat suspense, and thrilling from start to finish. Highly Recommended!

Delicacy

A French Charmer About Finding Love When You Least Expect It
The infectious Audrey Tautou takes center stage in this charming French confection about love in its various configurations. Ever since "Amelie," I've been enchanted with Tautou. She is so likable and natural with an intriguing ease on screen. It's almost impossible not to relate to her in some manner, and I think this appeal can sometimes overshadow her talent. And she is a true talent, she just makes it look simple. She goes through a strong character arc in "Delicacy" and is absolutely terrific. From contentment, to loss and withdrawal, to romantic rebirth--Tautou experiences much in this film filled with both melancholy and hope. Billed as a whimsical romantic comedy, I wouldn't discount this movie as merely frothy entertainment (although it surely is). There is a truth and poignancy at the heart of "Delicacy" that really resonates. This isn't pure fantasy. There are real life situations, genuine heart, and a surprising depth beneath the sweet exterior. And I, for one,...

Love souffle
"I could go on holiday in your hair," moons a love struck Swede named Markus (Francois Damiens) to his co-worker, a beautiful French widow named Nathalie. If that sounds like an inappropriate comment to make at the office (to your boss, no less), you're right. Then again, it's not every day that your boss (bearing a remarkable likeness to Audrey Tautou) calls you into her office, springs from her chair without warning, plants a lingering, passionate smooch, then goes back to her desk as if nothing just happened. It's an anomaly that a slovenly nebbish like Markus is going to require a few days to process.

Whether or not you believe that a beautiful young widow who bears a remarkable likeness to Audrey Tautou would even consider throwing herself at a slovenly nebbish who bears a remarkable likeness to a French Chris Elliot is probably a good litmus test for whether or not you will be willing to sit through a romantic dramedy called "Delicacy", directed by siblings David and...

A funny, sad, lovely film by Audrey Tautou.
This film has so many facets- it is not your average rom com or your average Audrey Tautou film. This movie is uplifting, sad, happy, witty, brilliant, awkward, and lovely. A few scenes will require a tissue box handy, such as when Tautou's character goes dancing at a club with her friend (I know it sounds odd). This movie brings you down to the level of a grief-stricken person and takes you along her journey to recovery, to laughter, and to love. Enjoy.

AWESOME for kids AND adults
My 6 1/2 year old son has gotten me helplessly addicted to the Clone Wars. We breathlessly anticipated the premier of Season 3, and boy, were we not disappointed! The episodes where (possible SPOILER?!) Darth Sidious orders Ventress to be assassinated were an awesome little interlude in the series. You actually find yourself rooting for Ventress in her quest to stay alive and exact revenge on Dooku for the betrayal. 'Padawan Lost' and the following episode, 'Wookiee Hunt', were an incredible way to end the season. The appearance of Chewbacca was so awesome, and a nice nod to us old school fans.

What I like about the series is that, even though there is some violence depicted, it is not gratuitous. I feel that this show somewhat realistically shows what happens in a war. My son is taught lessons on the importance of honor, peace, and doing the right thing. Of course I, as his parent, strive to teach him these things myself, but it doesn't hurt to have Captain Rex, Commander...

These Episodes Redeem the Prequels
I couldn't believe what I was seeing when I DVR'd and then watched the entire season 3. Combine the technology and characters found in the Star Wars movies with the backstories and immersion of the Essential Guide books, and you've got the Clone Wars TV episodes. Yes, they are CGI cartoons, but they're extremely well done - the Star Wars technology, the intricate stories never found in the movies, the soundtracks and the music. This is the Star Wars galaxy I was looking for in the prequels. Dozens of different planets, creatures and droids - all meticulously detailed and rendered. Aliens of all types. Action, with a minimum of Star Wars politics, and no awkward love stories. And these stories are dark and funny, perfect guilty pleasures for the Star Wars fan. Well done George Lucas - you can be proud of this new chapter in the Star Wars saga.

The Empire Cheaps Out!
I'm only going to speak here about how annoyed I am by the cheap, inconsistent packaging of Season Three. I have no doubts about Lucas's reasons, but let me list them here, for clarity.

1. They know we're going to buy it.
Honestly - who, having bought Seasons One and Two, is not going to buy Season Three? No one, that's who. If they'd recorded these on consumer-recordable blu-rays and shipped 'em in a brown paper bag, we'd still buy them. They know that.

2. This release will not lure in any new buyers.
On the flipside of point #1, no person who *didn't* buy Seasons One and Two is suddenly going to buy this one, so Lucas & co know they don't need to spend any more money to 'impress' new customers. Those people aren't buying the show, and no amount of fancy packaging is going to change their minds.

3. They're going to double-dip us later.
I don't know about you, but I was really keen on seeing every season of this show lined up on my...

LOVE it!!
My daughter and I started watching it and have completely fallen in love with it. It has now been preordered.
I have read, in different places, some criticisim about it being unrealistic and it really is. The lead actress should be the belle of the high school and what high school student wears shoes like that and runs in them everywhere? LOL. The mean are really beautiful and mean and the nice are really beautiful and nice.
BUT, if you just want good clean fun, this is the show for you. Not only do we DVR it, this is also the only show that we make a point of being in front of the TV when it comes on.
Don't look for deep meanings to life. Just enjoy :D

A Friend in Need [HD]

More Clone Wars fun
Clone Wars in season 4 continued to impress. This season was filled with several multi-episode story arcs. I found the first half of the season generally disappointing. The Mon Calamari arc didn't do any favors to Admiral Ackbar's character. The Umbaran battle arc has impressive visuals, but dragged on a bit long. I generally found the slaver's arc to be uninspired, with too many silly stereotypes (including an entire race of slaver's with Russian accents).

The second half of the season really picked up the pace with Obi-Wan Kenobi's undercover arc. I loved seeing more of the bounty hunters, especially Cad Bane! There were some great moments foreshadowing Anakin Skywalker's downfall. Then, of course, the finale, with Asajj become a freelance agent, Boba Fett getting a helmet, and Darth Maul!

Overall, this season definitely showed that the animators have the technical capability to do just about anything on the show. The second half of the season showed that the...

Blu-ray Review: "Star Wars: The Clone Wars - the Complete Season Four"
"Star Wars" fans are a fickle bunch. Some choose to believe only the original trilogy is to be taken seriously. Others are willing to accept all six of the films in the live-action series and that's all. I belong to the last group I'm about to talk about.

The faction I belong to will devour anything Lucas and company delivers in regards to a "Galaxy Far, Far Away." We're happy to get anything that expands the universe we love so much. Individuals who fall into this category but don't have the luxury of cable, satellite television, or high speed internet connections can now celebrate in the news that Lucasfilm and Warner Bros. released "Star Wars: The Clone Wars - The Complete Season Four" on Bu-ray and DVD.

Season Four of the show features the Jedi and Clone troopers continuing their tireless campaign to help different alien species fight for freedom against Battle Droids, Sith lords, and other deadly forces on strange worlds. Things get more complicated when a...

Season review not DVD
Season 4 continues the greatness of The Clone Wars as this show seems to get better every year especially the production and animation. Season 4 is my favorite season to date I love the multi arc episodes and this season had 2 different 4 part story arcs also 2 different 3 parters and a 2 parter to close the season. Without giving too much away I would say the Umbara arc was one of the best and darkest of the series and darkest and well the cover gives away another big story with Darth Maul which was handled very well. If you are fan of the show this is a no brainer Clone Wars is turning out to be one of the all time greats and a nice addition to The Star Wars Universe. So it turns out it's the slim cheaper packaging again I knew it would be but oh well still on content alone it's well worth the purchase for any Star Wars fan simply a great show that gets better every Season.

Cowards Come Calling

Episode: The Coin Shop Killer
I liked watching "Body of Evidence" either before or after watching "Forensic Files." In each episode, Dayle Hinman, a profiler, uses to clues to trace who the killer must be before a name or identity is known. I saw "The Silence of the Lambs" for the first time in years and Hinman does a lot of what Clarisse Starling (Jody Foster) without being scary and shocking.
A person who sold coins began robbing and killing current coin sellers. He used the Internet to go around the country completing these awful slayings. The facts here will make you fear how much information the Internet provides to the world. Also, it shows that killers can come from states and time zones far away.
Ms. Hinman has a calm, soothing voice. You might wonder why she didn't become a counselor or psychologist, rather than a profiler. Almost all of the cases come from Florida.
I wish this show was still on the air. This episode, and many others, are really great.

Kinda like 48 hours or something
I like this true crime show. Its about this lady who's an investigator and she kind of re-enacts how she came to different conclusions and then they show how the person got caught and stuff. No real photos or anything.

Really, Amazon? $1.99 for 22 minutes?
I've never seen this show thus the "average" rating, but I never will see this show so long as Amazon keeps it's prices unfair. I pay $1.99 per 44 minute - 1 hour tv episode gladly ( sometimes $1.89 per show, if I get the season pass) but the same price for an item half that long. Seems like gouging to me. ANY half an hour tv show or less should reflect a fair price cut such as $.99 per episode. It's only fair. Maybe then I could give a fairer review, but you get as good as you give.

"Seed of Kurtis" AKA "Father Is Just Another Word For Motherf*cker"

Jim Brown, Jim Kelly, Fred Williamson, Richard Roundtree, And Robert Hooks Return As Black Dynamite !!!!!
As a fan of the 1970's blaxploitation era, this animated series by Michael Jail White Co starring Byron Keith Minns, Kym Whitley, and Tommy Davidson is RIGHT on time !!!! Produced by Carl Jones the same one that gave us Afro Samurai and Boondocks , you can expect humor, excellent anime, off the wall comedy, shock value, and a heavy, heavy dose of 1970's blaxploitation revived !!!!

Entertaining and original show!!
Black Dynamite the animated series is a wildly imaginative show, which not only pays homage to the Blaxploitation films of the seventies, but puts an insanely humorous spin on it.

I loved the original live action movie, and while I would like to see another one, the animated series more than fits the bill for now.

It is likely not a show for everyone, but if you like hard hitting, no holds barred comedy, then this is the show for you.

BLACK DYNAMITE IS DYNAMITE!
I just love it. I believe it may fill the void for those missing "The Boondocks". It keeps me laughing and watching.

Love this series.
What can I say, I love this series. The animation is in a class all by itself. LucasFilms is just an inch away from never needing live actors again. The writing is great and the direction is theater quality.

BEWARE JAR-JAR WARNING! Jar-Jar appears in this series (all seasons). Luckily, there are episode descriptions before you make the painful mistake of watching Jar-Jar for more than a millisecond thus sending you into retching convulsions which will alert you to his hideous presence, so you can skip those.

Awesome shows
Full of action and adventure. There is a lot of battles and relatively authentic Star Wars fighting paraphernalia. There is hand-to-hand combat and battles on land and air. Awesome storylines.

Worth it to get into the later seasons.
I wasn't a huge fan of season 1, but the show just gets better from here. It's worth picking this season up to really understand some of the longer arcs of the show.

LOVE this show
I did not expect to fall so hard for this show, but I did! I was channel-surfing one day when I stumbled across it; since then, it has haunted my thoughts, appeared in my dreams...I hope it never ends! There are so many aspects of this show that I absolutely adore, it is difficult to name just one, but basically, the actresses are fabulous, Neil Jackson as coach Sasha is impossible to take your eyes off of [in more ways than just one...sigh], the writing is stunningly emotional if at times a bit uneven. If you have daughters, you want them watching shows like this one which will empower them to engage with the world, dream big then achieve big, plus rely on their friends to guide them through the peer pressure which leads too many young women astray in their teenage years. I have yet to find a show which portrays women as accurately as this one does.
Support female emowerment---buy this DVD!

The Irish Banana Review
Words cannot express my love for this show. Yes, it is a little on the cheeseball side of things and it is, at times, incredibly unrealistic. But if I wanted reality I wouldn't be watching TV.

Season 2 starts off with a the same gusto and flair as season 1. The added bonus is that the actresses are now a year further into their roles and I feel like they are beginning to own them. The acting alone has improved ten fold. The gymnatsics sequences are as mind-boggling awesome as ever.

Season 2 really starts stripping away the pretty exterior of the show and focuses on some real life issues - like Kaylee's eating disorder. Gymnast or not, a lot of young girls can relate and this storyline will resonate with them.

it's so good!
this show teaches great life lessons and it's just a great show all around! Unlike a lot of shows like this one, this show has things on it that actually happen! I mean the elite gymnastics thing isn't relatable to everyones life but all the drama, it's so true! I love it! I love how we watch them get through obstacles and move on and it's so relatable! Great show!

A Juvenile, Laugh-Free Nail-in-the-Coffin for the Series
The third film in the Meet the Parents series takes place five years after the last outing and reunites the original cast, while adding some new characters and expanding previously smaller roles. Not only has original director Jay Roach been replaced by Paul Weitz, a sign of trouble to be sure but you know a series is in trouble when it has to introduce children into the mix...Writers tend to introduce children in order to expand their story when that story has run its course. Despite the title, the children don't play too big of a role in the movie and are pawns of the script used to create a reason for these characters to reunite a final time. I enjoyed the first two films in the series and I admit that I went into this thinking it was unnecessary but despite these reservations, I watched the movie with an open mind expecting a mediocre comedy that would entertain me for 90 minutes. While I wouldn't call this movie "boring," I was not prepared for just how mediocre it actually...

Hollywood - Please Stop Making Terrible Pointless Sequels
So it's been 10 years since Meet The Parents, and boy has this franchise been mined to death. For the 3rd movie, let's strip away all writing talent, all of the jokes, and hey throw out the plot while you're at it. There is absolutely no point to watching this movie, the gags are the same as 10 years ago, and most of the major players simply phone their parts in. They even had to shoehorn Hoffman and Streisand into the film, gee wonder why they're in scenes by themselves? Because they couldn't clear their schedules enough to show up for major filming. (Valentine's Day ring a bell anyone?)

Anyway, avoid this like the plague.

Nothing like the first two movies
This movie was nothing like the first two movies.....it was not funny at all....I rented it from the redbox so I am glad I only wasted $1

Red Scorpion

Comment below is misleading...
The title of the customer's comment is misleading. There is a standard def DVD inside the package and the comment says "no standard def dvd", which is not true.
The customer is rating a product because they don't have a Blu-ray player, but fail to mention they can CERTAINLY play the standard definition DVD inside, which contains all the same special features as the Blu-ray, but in DVD format. The film is a combo pack, and the picture included in the listing clearly shows it also contains a standard definition DVD version inside.

african action/adventure that is probably one of Dolph's best from the 80's...
Action star Dolph Lundgren got his big break playing Russian Ivan Drago in Rocky IV (1985), and he again plays a Russian in his fourth film Red Scorpion (1988), a military adventure set in Africa. Lundgren is Lt. Nikolai Rachenko, a member of "Spetsnaz"(Russian special forces) who is sent undercover to locate and assassinate a resistance leader. The action sequences are generally very well executed and often extreme, as the brute force of modern mechanized armies are unleashed on the native people. The film doesn't dwell on tragedy, taking a mostly surreal approach to the mayhem, and stylizing the violence. Red Scorpion also includes a "spiritual" element, as Rachenko comes to realize how the Soviets have been abusing the people, and becomes enlightened to their native ways.

Events take place in an African nation where forces of the Soviet Union and Cuba, are involved in the subjugation of the...

You Can Dance - Waltz

Too Slow Paced
I bought several of Vicki Regon's tapes. She seems to be a very fun teacher and very good dancer. But the instructions are too slow-paced. There are a lot of repeats which are not necessary for DVDs and video tapes. With only 4 or 5 steps taught in each tape, if you are a beginner, I doubt "you can dance" comfortbly on the floor after you've learned from those tapes. In terms of steps per dollar, you can find much better deals on market than this series.

It's a must for starters
Easy to learn the first steps and to follow the instructions.

The producers should make other dvd-s for more advanced steps.

Dancing lubricant ... and fun, too!
Finally got kid #4 into college but have forgotten all those high school/college dance lessons? Same here and all left feet. To keep embarrassment to a minimum and get coordinated together, we tried some DVDs from Netflix and found time with Vicki to be the most productive and fun. We started with Foxtrot, as it is similar to walking - we remember how to do that! It allowed us to dance a few at the next dance and even made us look great at lessons, lucky the first dance they taught was ....foxtrot, with only a new step or two added (but left out the underarm turn Vicki showed us). Well, it did take a week of after work nights to get up to speed.

So when we tried the waltz, we were so used to being coordinated and to Vicki's teaching style, I do believe we picked up the essence in a single weekend night ... and still have a week or so until the next dance class!

I'm getting the whole set to have in case we forget something, but can't say which are important to get...

There's A Noose Waiting For You...Trinity! - Digitally Remastered

All About Kinski
Klaus Kinski elevates this cartoonish film to an interesting character study. How he does it is a mystery. I never knew when or if Klaus was going to explode and kill the protagonist or hug and kiss him. The ending surprised me. Kinski was a great actor but a terrible person or so I've read. It's a shame he burned the candle at both ends and died young. Worth a watch for sure.

Paul Bunyan, Told by Jonathan Winters, Music by Leo Kottke & Duck Baker

Great
Had it when I was a kid, just as good these days. I'm glad it's on Amazon Instant Video now.

Worth a watch for children
A re-telling of the Paul Bunyan tall tales, generally well done, with good narration. A virtue is that, in the end, Paul shows some remorse that the cut down so many trees.

Great
This is a good, wholesome movie for children to watch. Jonathan Winters is a great narrator and the music is awesome.

Peachboy, Told by Sigourney Weaver with Music by Ryuicki Sakamoto

Enjoyable retelling of the old story of Momotaro
Very well done. This is one rendition of the traditional Japanese folk tale of Momotaro or Peach Boy, a story about parental love and the triumph of good over evil. There are many variations of this tale, starting and ending at different points and including different plot twists, and this is a pleasant version for readers of today.

The illustrations are lovely and camera movement is well designed. The music is by Ryuichi Sakamoto, who also composed the music of The Last Emperor and other movies. Sigourney Weaver narrates it well, even if her pronunciation of Japanese words like ojiisan (grandpa) is a bit off. About 27 minutes plus credits.

A great persuasion to visit East Africa
I have always wanted to visit Africa, specifically Tanzania; however, my family was a little apprehensive.

Watching Rick's experience definitely helped them warm up to the idea. The places he visits and the things he sees are stunning to say the least. It just goes to show how unique any individual experience can be in the African Bush.

We made the jump with his help and went as a family for 2 weeks in July. No negative experiences and it was the adventure of a lifetime!

Definitely check this film out if you're thinking about a Safari in Africa, Rick shares lots of great insight that we used to prepare and plan our trip.

Party It Up

Like it
Like watching it. It's most of the time clear, but sometimes it can get staticky if your not in a good Internet connection, but overall, it was great and fun to watch!

Pre-Tweener Heaven
If you have a dance crazed child, ours is a 7 year old girl, then this series will be your child's video "drug" of choice. For the most part it is harmless fun, but, in true Disney fashion, Disney cannot help but throw in some crude lines from time to time. We are a bit prudish in our house, so you may not even notice the crudity. Anyway, big recommendation for the right crowd.
(As an adult, it is not too annoying, until the 3rd episode in a row is played, at which time it becomes fingernails on the ol' chalkboard.)

5 year old gift
My daughter has not stopped watching it since she received it on her bday. It really keeps her attention and I love that!

Anansi, Told by Denzel Washington with Music by UB40

Folklore for all ages . . .
All the stories in this Rabbit Ear collection are narrated by well known celebrities. Denzel Washington tells the story of Anansi, a South African god that is full of tricks. Taking the form of a spider, he artfully weaves his web of tales. The art and music only add to this fun rendition of 'favorite and unusual tales.' Happy viewing!

Spiders all over the place!!!!!!!!11
I'd recommend this movie to anyone who believes in spider myths. I do!
I have seen and killed over a dozen spiders in the last two weeks. Most of them were on the outside of my home, and they were sized from small to medium to large to xl. What the!!
This movie about the mythical Anansi gave me some cheerful analagies and a little laughter.
Believe what you may about spiders, I know there is definitely a stranger in the future for this family.
Peace and Blessings!!

Anansi Returns
I was happy to see this in film - I grew up on Anansi stories and so I was excited to share this with my daughter - she loves it - by the way who does not love Denzel - he did a great job as narrator and a very convincing West Indian accent

Shallow Creek Cult

Different Slant on the found footage horror film sub-genre
There have been so many found footage horror films made since 1999 when the Blair Witch Project hit theaters (yes it's been about 14 years!) that you would have thought that the sub-genre would be burned out by now, which is largely true.
Most of what you get now are more sequels to Paranormal Activity and the countless rip offs of that, and just lame, badly acted attempts to make a cheap horror movie.
Shallow Creek Cult is different however, as it provides a decent story, good acting, some funny scenes and genuine suspense focusing one two brothers who battle a group of cannibals in a remote house in the woods.
I recommend this film to anyone who likes the found footage kind of movie and thus my rating of a strong 3 out of 5 stars.

Basic Slaughter

Great Movie!, Just Give it a Chance.
I liked everything about this movie, the only thing I want to say is not a bad comment but more of a tip for the next movie you guys make ( Hint: the reporter goes psycho and he starts copy catting the murders ) but also you guys should act yourselves don't try too hard on keeping a straight face while saying your lines and actually sometimes it's even good to twist up one of the lines and say it the way you would really say it for example instead of saying something like "No we can't go out there because he's probably waiting for us" you should say something like "Hell no we can't go out there that crazy **** is waiting for us" you know what I mean? but overall I liked the movie and the environment it took place in and the gory scenes that **** was awesome. you guys keep doing what your doing and you'll get better at it. Thank You

A must see for those who enjoy cheesey slasher films!
I may be slightly biased, since I'm in this movie. I do own an advanced copy, because of this. I believe that guys who are really into video games and enjoy comic book conventions, will love this. There's plenty of funny sound effects and a few some what gorey scenes. Lots of humor and some action. Plenty of genre references in the dialogue. For something that was filmed very quickly, without rehearsal, it's quit good. All of the actors have little or no previous experience. That just makes it even more amazing at how well the finished product came out. It always makes me laugh! There are a few special features on the DVD. All in all, if you're a fan of this kind of film, you will love it. If not, you'll probably hate it.

Fun movie, worth the buy!
I really enjoyed this movie! For something that was made on a small budget and now on amazon, I'm impressed. It's a really fun movie to sit down and watch, and not very long either. I recommend this this indie slasher to any person that enjoys a good, fun movie.

Old School

Great cast, too hilarious to ignore!!
I just saw this movie about three hours ago, and I have to say it is the best movie I've seen in the theater in a long, long time. The starring cast is unbelievable, as Luke Wilson (from 'The Royal Tenenbaums' and 'Legally Blonde'), Will Ferrell (SNL funnyman/'A Night At The Roxbury' star), and Vince Vaughn (from both 'Made' and 'Swingers') star as three married buddies who begin a fraternity; or something like it. And along with the three stars, there's a great list of supporting roles and cameos. Including Sean William Scott (Stifler of 'American Pie'), Andy Dick, CBS Late Late Show's Craig Kilborn, and Jeremy Piven. And once you get past the long cast list, you have a very funny movie. As the movie starts, you get a glimpse of each of the three stars and their lives; as far as their marriages go. Then as it turns out, none of them are really happy.

And as Mitch (Luke Wilson) gets divorced and moves into a frathouse near a college, they decide to start a fraternity. But...

what? unrated? whats the difference?
This movie is hilarious, and I would give the movie itself 4 our of 5 stars. But there is hardly any difference between the unrated cut and the R rated cut of the movie. When you have topless women on the menu and on the back of the cover, one might be mislead to think there was tons more nudity, when in reality there are 2 brief scenes with any type of nudity (besides will ferrel's butt scene). This movie could have easily passed the R rating cut, as the unrated thing is nothign but a marketing ploy. I bought the movie for laughs and definately not for sex, but for someone who does, the "UNRATED AND OUT OF CONTROL" part is quite misleading.

Sort of an Animal House 25th anniversary tribute.
"Old School" brings back the fun and irreverence of the days of "Animal House" that so few movies seem willing to revisit. Comedy these days seems built around 'paint-by-numbers' formulas or 'let's see how much we can gross people out' shock characteristics. Current releases like "Boat Trip" and "Bringing Down the House" fall in the former category while any movie involving Tom Green or the Farrelly Brothers falls into the latter category. In "Old School", it's refreshing to see a movie that takes a 'devil may care' attitude with its plot and characters while also have the common sense to push the envelope where appropriate without ever crossing the line (following "Animal House's" lead).

In "Old School", Mitch (played by Luke Wilson) is depressed after a breakup with his longtime girlfriend. He moves into a new house near the local college campus and his two best friends, Beanie (Vince Vaughn) and Frank 'the Tank' (Will Ferrell) decide to cheer him up by using his...

Transitions Season One

Low budget doesnt always mean bad.
I tried this out as I am a fan of the horror genre. I actually found it enjoyable and watched it all in 1 sitting as the episodes played back to back. It's not like the other popular vampire love stories that seem to be popping up a lot lately instead it focuses on a main character who was bitten and how he transitions into his new life of being a vampire.

Interesting New Take on Vampires
This is quite clearly a low budget film and, while production values may not be up to those of a big budget film, the product looks good. Clearly a good bit of thought has gone into the way the series is shot and it adheres to film conventions. The writing and acting improves as the season progresses and the actors adapt to their roles and the writer improves and adapts to who is cast for each role.

The new take on vampires is actually a return to convention and perhaps a more toned down approach. The series deals with the politics of the vampires' world and avoids such things as bursting into flames and, god forbid, sparkling.

Beware
I guess someone has to be the guinea pig...

Looks like it was shot on a phone. Actors who aren't actors. An incredibly stilted script. No direction. No lighting. Just a whole bunch of stay away.

Geoffery's Animal Alphabet
Can't buy a DVD, so this remastered version is as good as it gets. The kids love it! Video is not HD but better than the old VHS we use to play and the audio is fantastic.

Love it!
I grew up watching Geoffrey and wanted to find it for my 16 month old daughter. The graphics of the video are the same from the 1980's VHS (appears to be just a recording of them). The content is the exact same. The tunes for each animal are catchy and no more than about 30 seconds each. Each animal has its own rhythm and music style. This is just a fun educational video for children with real national geographic footage.

Timeless
My children remember this vividly from childhood... we excitedly purchased this to share with their children! Great film clips, catchy tunes and a fun learning tool.

Death In Hollywood

R.I.P. Vic Morrow
Wow, still creepy!! I first saw "Death In Hollywood" when it came out in the early 90's with my Dad and all I can say is that the stories and images have stuck with me for a long time. A lot of stars from the old days might not be of interest to the "Power Rangers" generation but this thing is worth the price of admission just for the Vic Morrow footage alone. E's True Hollywood Story about "The Twilight Zone Movie" incident didn't show you the actual footage of the actors demise but this early 90's documentary does, from multiple angles at that. The George Reeves story doesn't run in his favor but this video is old. Splashing into star after star like a Mansion pool party you'll be sucked in wanting more. A mild Faces Of Death have you. I haven't seen "When The Applause Died" but buy it for Death In Hollywood.

Death in Hollywood
The film needed to be more interesting, and improvement was needed in editing and selection of film clips.I expected more from this film.

... And They're Off!
This Daily Double of B (or less) movies/documentaries are stills and movie clips collaged in 1990 by Golden West Films and narrated by some guy (Paul Durris) who, one speculates, is Evelyn Wood's (The Evelyn Wood Seven-Day Speed Reading and Learning Program) ADHD brother. Claiming to "exhume and examine," commentating at a Race Track announcer-like clip, Durris dishes deaths of Hollywood famous and infamous, rarely pausing long enough to smell the roses in the funeral parlor or offer new insights.

There *is* included what turned out to be an ironic public service announcement done by James Dean during a break in the filming of Giant (Two-Disc Special Edition) (Digipack) in which he admonishes teen fans to Drive Safely, and background info to make sense of the death of Thomas Harper Ince aboard Wm Randolph Hearst's (root of...

Dear God No

The classic style exploitation flick is back!
This flick is an absolute blast. When you see a biker step over an empty PBR box to kick a dead nun into the bushes within the first two minutes, I'd say it's safe to say that you're in for a wild ride. Another reviewer accused this flick of 'bad taste." You say that like it's a bad thing. Dear God No flaunts its tasteless, violent, psychotic, bizarre excesses in the face of modern politically correct cinema. I'll try not to give anything away, but we get the repeated dead nun crotch punting, multiple decapitations, lesbian incest rape, Nazis, tampon shots, children being murdered, coke-line swastikas, and anything else you can imagine. If depraved weirdness and blood-soaked mayhem is your thing, prepare to experience cinematic nirvana. This isn't faux grindhouse filmmaking, this IS grindhouse filmmaking. Shot on film, the way the cinema gods intended. Get some buddies together, let the beer flow, and have a raucous good time watching this DVD. will you ever have more fun...

You can smell the exhaust fumes and the Marlboro reds.
A movie to bring out the kid in you!

Shot on film, Dear God No has the greasy feel of the great drive-in exploitation films of the 70s. It includes everything that made these scummy opuses so great, upping the cheap thrills ante to include more blood, more b**bs and more bizarreness than a daisy chain of Herschell Gordon Lewis, Dave Friedman and Andy Milligan could ever dream of. But Dear God No is hardly an artsy homage to 70s exploitation. It's the real thing, more extreme, more twisted, sicker, funnier and crazier than nearly anything that's ever b!tch-slapped the silver screen before. Unlike a lot of 70s grindhouse fare, though, Dear God No never has time to be boring or get stale. Long biker montage scenes are creatively shot so they never devolve into the kind of tired filler that Corman biker epics were known for. A seemingly endless scene with topless dancers in Nixon masks is still too short for my money. The characters are so sleazily charismatic that you never...

Best Movie Ever and Hairy!
After missing my chance see this movie at a convention for free I had no choice but to buy it. Its a bloody biker exploitation film filmed in Georgia full of boobs, booze, blood, guts, rape, guns and drugs. Add a stock '70s soundtrack and you have one hell of a film. It's like "Easy Rider" raped "Hobo With a Shotgun" then spit "Last house on The Left"(1972) in its face and they had a child that grew up to be called "Dear God, No!" I recommend it to anyone one that likes old school grind house style movies. See it!!

Snow White

An Enchanting Double Experience
I grew up with both this and the Disney versions of Snow White and Cinderella. This is MUCH better than the Disney interpretations, for both Cinderella and Snow White.
SNOW WHITE: I never cared for Disney's Snow White. I did not find Snow White to be particularly beautiful at all - she's pretty, but not gorgeous enough to be "the fairest in the land." The songs were mediocre, and the story strayed very much from the original. I was terrified when the evil queen transformed into the old hag, and she gave my brother nightmares. He used to run out of the room and hide under his bed whenever she appeared.
In THIS version, Snow White is positively stunning, and she is portrayed as very kind and sympathetic. The song "The Power of Love" is very good and "A Little Bit of Magic" is fantastic. "Hip Hip Hooray" is very funny. The evil queen is also very beautiful, and her vanity is depicted much better. True to the original tale, the queen visits Snow White THREE times. The Brothers...

The enchanting classic fairy tale, but definitely not the best adaptation...
Snow White, produced by Jetlag Productions in the year 1996 and released on DVD format by Goodtimes Entertainment in 2002 is based on the classic Brothers Grimm fairy tale, "Snow White". Alright, so Jetlag Productions has produced some pretty mediocre animated films and I have to say that "Snow White" really is one of them. Unlike "Pocahontas" (1994), "Snow White" does have very strong competition from Disney, the 1937 "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs" is an animated masterpiece if there ever was one. Even alone, Jetlag Productions' "Snow White" will come off as poorly crafted and somewhat bland. Its weaknesses overshadow its strengths, for it does have one or two, and it really doesn't fall as downright awful in any particular category, either. Compared to other adaptations by the studio of Grimm's and Charles Perrault's fairy tales,...

It's really not a bargain
The animation is crude and the music is monotonous. I have to admit that it holds my 3-year old's attention, but any adult will find it unbearable. There is not even the slightest comparison to the Disney classics and I will be tossing this out and replacing it immediately.
